Oakmont Counseling Center

Joan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified School Counselor. She counsels children, adolescents, and adults with diverse needs such as relationship issues, parenting, anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, attachment, behavior, special needs, school issues, family violence, grief and loss, work-life balance, and wellness. Her counseling sessions incorporate a variety of theories and techniques that might include person-centered therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and other counseling theories and techniques to meet each client's individual needs.
Joan is passionate about helping clients recognize their strengths and encourages them to use those strengths to become healthier and happier individuals and to improve their relationships. She believes that counseling is most effective when the therapist provides unconditional acceptance and support to the client so they can comfortably and confidently continue on a positive journey of self-discovery.
Joan has an extensive background working with children and parents. She believes that play is a child's language and embraces child-centered play therapy as the most appropriate, research-based technique for counseling children. Play therapy helps children express their feelings using toys and play instead of words. She enjoys consulting with parents and empowering them with tools to raise happy, confident, and responsible children.  Joan is a trained independent facilitator of the Love and Logic parenting curriculum and a Certified Educator of Infant Massage.
